There is a world of research and information beyond Google! With just your library card you can access a wide variety of databases and subscriptions that can help lead you to your answers.   • Gale Onefile: Popular Magazines – Find full text articles by using the “Topic Finder” tool, or search by subject or publication name.
  • Gale Virtual Reference Library: Literature – Full text reference sources on various topics related to books and literature.
  • JSTOR – Read full-text articles from academic journals, books and primary sources across many different fields, including the arts, humanities and sciences. In-library use only.
  • Literary Reference Center – Plot summaries, author biographies, book reviews and more from literary journals and encyclopedias.
  • Pronunciator – learn new languages with these interactive online courses. Pronunciator also offers an app for iPhones/iPods, iPads, Android Phones, Android Tablets, and Kindle Fire.
  • Novelist – Database of fiction titles and author information for readers of all ages.
  • WorldCat – Worldwide library catalog with over 62,000,000 items in 400 languages.

  • AtoZ Database – A premier reference, research, marketing, mailing Lists/Sales leads,
    and job-search database.
  • Auto Repair Source – Repair and maintenance information for a wide variety of cars and pickup trucks.
  • Business Source Premier – Full-text articles from more than 2000 journals as well as company profiles, industry reports, SWOT analyses and more.
  • Consumer Health Complete – Healthcare information from a consumer perspective, gathered from health and wellness periodicals.
  • Consumer Reports – Product reviews from the independent, nonprofit Consumers Union. Paid for by Friends of the Glencoe Public Library.
  • Financial Ratings Series Online – View financial strength ratings for insurance companies across the industries, as well as investment ratings for mutual and exchange-traded funds.
  • Fueleconomy.gov – The official U.S. government source for fuel economy information. Compare fuel economy ratings for vehicles, get tips for how to save money and fuel, and find up-to-date consumer information on alternative fuel vehicles (e.g. electric and hybrid).
  • Gale Virtual Reference Library: Business – Full text reference sources on various business topics.
  • Legal Information Reference Center – Full text reference sources written with laypeople in mind, searchable or browsable by legal topic.
  • LexisNexis Library Express – over 6,000 news, business, and legal sources, including the Washington Post, Standard and Poor’s, Hoover’s and decisions from U.S. courts.  Some sources are not available from outside the library.
  • Morningstar.com – Information about stocks and mutual funds including analysts reports.
  • Reference USA – Information about businesses by type, size and location.
  • Regional Business News – Full text from more than 100 journals (including Crain’s) with a local business focus.
  • Secretary of State Illinois – Information regarding Illinois residents
  • Small Business Reference Center – Journal articles, reference books, videos, business plans and more for entrepreneurs and small business owners.
  • Udemy (Presented by Gale) – Udemy offers 20,000 on-demand video tutorials covering technology (e.g., Office, Windows, and Mac OS, coding, etc.), business & management, job & career skills, and personal growth.
  • Weiss Ratings – View stock ratings, company info and read articles about finance and investing.

  • Art Museum Image Gallery – An online collection of over 155,000 works of art from around the world.
  • Creativebug – Access hundreds of on-demand video tutorials and project guides for painting, knitting, crochet, sewing, screen printing, jewelry-making, and more.
  • Freegal – Download MP3 format songs from the Sony music catalog of over 400,000 songs of all musical genres.
  • Gale Virtual Reference Library: Arts – Full text reference sources on various topics related to the arts.
  • Hoopla Digital – View movies and listen to music or audiobooks on your computer or mobile device. You can borrow up to 10 items per month. An app is available for iOS and for Android.

  • Ancestry Library Edition – Provides access to billions of records in census data, vital records, directories, photos, and more. In library use only.
  • HeritageHub – Searchable obituaries and death notices from over 4,100 U.S. sources.
  • JewishGen – Provides research tools, and resources to help those with Jewish ancestry research and find family members.

  • EBSCO Mobile – Articles and reference books available for iOS or Android.
  • Hoopla Digital – Stream and download eBooks, eAudiobooks, eComics, Videos and Music. Apps are available for iOS or Android, as well as many TV-connected streaming devices such as Roku, AppleTV, etc. (search your device’s built-in apps/channels for “Hoopla”)
  • Libby (Digital Library of Illinois/Overdrive) – Downloadable ebooks, audiobooks, and magazines for iOS or Android. If you use an e-paper Kindle device (such as the Paperwhite), you can transfer most ebook titles into your Kindle library so they can be read with that device.
  • Kanopy Movies – An online database of thought-provoking films for all ages. Apps are available for iOS or Android, as well as many TV-connected streaming devices such as Roku, AppleTV, etc. (search your device’s built-in apps/channels for “Kanopy”).

  • Academic Search Premier – More than 13,000 academic journals, many offering full-text articles.
  • Access World News – Find information on topics of current interest including business, science and technology. Features Newsweek, Foreign Affairs, Popular Science, the Smithsonian and more.
  • America’s Obituaries – Searchable obituaries and death notices from over 4,100 U.S. sources.
  • Chicago News Collection – Searchable full text from 256 Chicago region news outlets, including Glencoe News 1995 – present.
  • Chicago Sun-Times Collection – Full text and full page, 1986 – present.
  • Chicago Tribune – Full text 1985 – present.
  • Chicago Tribune Archives – Full text 1849 – 1988.
  • Daily Herald – Full text and full page, 1995 – present.
  • DLIL Magazines – Digital editions of some of your favorite magazines delivered to your computer, smartphone or tablet. Requires Libby app for Apple or Android devices.
  • Gale Popular Magazines – Popular magazines covers a wide range of news and popular culture and includes the full collection of National Public Radio programs, including transcripts and podcasts.
  • Flipster – offers popular digital magazines that can read off your computer or devices

  • New York Times – Full text of the newspaper from 1980 to the present; full text of the Book Review and Magazine 1997-present.
  • New York Times (Historical) – Full text 1851 – 2007.
  • Proquest Discovery – Articles from 2,000+ newspapers and magazines, most in full-text.
  • SIRS Researcher – Selected full-text resources on leading issues of the day.
  • Special Report and Hot Topics – Includes national and international topics of current interest. It is a great spot for students to find search topics and articles on key issues and monthly themes including National Poetry Month, Earth Day, 2016 U.S. Presidential Election and more.
  • USA News – Full text and articles.
  • US Major Dailies – Search across several major daily papers at once. Includes Chicago Tribune, Los Angeles Times, New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and Washington Post.

  • Pronunciator – learn new languages with these interactive online courses. Pronunciator also offers an app for iPhones, iPods, and iPads, Android Mobile, Android Tablets and a Kindle Fire App.
  • Illinois Driving Tests – Preparing for your driving exam? Learn online from home at our Driving Test training page. Take practice tests, review study guides and download material to help you succeed. Motorcycle, CDL study material are also available!
